Passion for God
By: Vonette Bright
“Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love.”
(Revelation 2:4)
What was the most significant event in Mary Jenson’s life? It wasn’t God getting her through the suicide of her father or the cancer death of her mother. Though He did. It wasn’t the various and sundry crises of her children or her own fear issues. Though He was there. It was the day when she decided to pray about her lack of passion for God.
Mary knew that her love for God was lukewarm at best. But she believes God was waiting for her to pray about it because His answer came quickly. God gave her a joyful, grinning, all-absorbing, long-lasting love that hasn’t gone away. Friend, that’s passion!
Do you love God out of duty or are you passionate for Him? Pray for renewed love for God. God wants to be loved and He wants you to participate in that love.
Over Salad and Hot Bread: What an Old Friend Taught Me about Life - by Mary Jenson www.HowardPublishing.com
For years I had heard Dr. Bright admonish that we not lose our first love as per Revelation 2. I knew exactly what he was talking about, but had no personal experience with that “first love.” I came to Christ out of obedience. I was a first born, after all. I loved God out of duty, experiencing feelings only during high emotional times - Christmas, Easter, memorial services and occasional sunsets. But one day I’d had enough. http://www.womentoday.org/interviews/maryjenson.html
