…remember this.

Yesterday I shared Napoleon Hill’s “QQMA” formula with you.

Which is all about going the extra mile — i.e. doing more than you’re paid for.

I also told you this is THE principle that has had the biggest impact in my business and my life…

But you might be wondering WHY you should go the extra mile in everything you do??

After all, it’s literally more work.

Napoleon Hill wasn’t shy about it.

He provided 15 reasons that you should make a habit of going the extra mile in everything you do.

If this doesn’t convince you I don’t know what will ;)

  • Favorable Attention — “This habit will bring you the favorable attention of those who can and will provide you with opportunities…”
  • Law of Increasing Returns — “It will place back of you that great natural law of increasing returns through which the service you render will bring back greater than average compensation.”
  • Indispensable — “Following this habit will make you indispensable in your chosen occupation or calling.”
  • Achieve Excellence — “Help you excel in your line of work because each time you render service, you endeavor to do a better job than you did previously.”
  • Preferable Treatment — “If you work for a salary or wages, this habit will give you preference when others are laid off.”
  • The Law of Contrast — “It will help you benefit by the law of contrast, because the others around you will not be going the first mile, let alone the second mile.”
  • Personality — “Will improve your personality and make you liked by others.”
  • Imagination — “It will help you to develop a keen and alert imagination because you will be continuously seeking new and better ways of rendering useful service.”
  • Personal Initiative — “It will inspire you to move on your own personal initiative instead of waiting to be told what to do.”
  • Self-Reliance — “Makes you self-reliant and gives you the courage to move ahead without fear of criticism from others.”
  • Overcome Procrastination — “Helps you to master the destructive habit of procrastination.”
  • Cooperation — “Encourages other people to respect your integrity. And inspires them to go out of their way to cooperate with you in a friendly spirit.”
  • Definiteness of Purpose — “The habit helps you to develop definiteness of purpose, which is the starting point of all personal success.”
  • Higher Pay — “Here is the grand payoff: it provides you with the one and only excuse to ask for a promotion to a better station in life or a higher pay.”
  • Mastermind Alliance — “Conditions your mind to maintain a mastermind alliance with others.”

If you literally ONLY apply one thing to your life that Napoleon Hill said…

Make it this.

Because going the extra mile can change your life in countless ways.

You might be surprised at how many opportunities there are, even in the darkness.

I just read this passage from Robert Collier’s book, The Secrets of The Ages… and it really hit home…

"Every untoward condition is merely a lack of something. Darkness, you know, is not real. It is merely a lack of light. Turn on the light and the darkness will be seen to be nothing. It vanishes instantly. In the same way poverty is simply a lack of necessary supply. Find the avenue of supply and your poverty vanishes. Sickness is merely the absence of health. If you are in perfect health, sickness cannot hurt you. Doctors and nurses go about at will among the sick without fear — and suffer as a rule far less from sickness than does the average man or woman. So there is nothing you have to overcome. You merely have to acquire something."

When most people are going through adversity or hardship, they think a lot about how to “overcome” the situation.

But the above passage reminded me that it’s not about overcoming adversity… it’s about acquiring prosperity.

Here’s a worthwhile exercise if you’re facing challenging obstacles. Ask yourself…

A new job? A new opportunity? A new habit or routine?

We usually spend a lot of time thinking about loss when we come up against a difficult situation — but what do you stand to gain?

Perhaps it’s simply more gratefulness. More resilience. More experience. More awareness.

Or perhaps it’s something even more tangible, like a better career path or a greater pay rate.

It reminds me of what Ryan Holiday, one of my favorite authors, said in his book, The Obstacle is the Way…

"The obstacle in the path becomes the path. Never forget, within every obstacle is an opportunity to improve our condition."

What do you stand to acquire because of this difficult situation?

You might be surprised at how many opportunities there are, even in the darkness 🙂
