Here’s kind of a crazy question for you…
For your own personal development, do you think it’s more beneficial to…
A. Think Positive Thoughts
Or…
B. NOT Think Negative Thoughts
There’s actually quite a lot of research on this. And when Lewis Howes interviewed Price Pritchett, Pritchett said… “The answer is unequivocal. It’s less negative thinking…”
"Positive thinking is important. Keep it up. Keep it high. But if you want to get the real mileage, cut down on the negative thinking. That’s the villain's voice. That’s the critic in your head. That’s the demotivator. That’s the discounter. That’s the one that raises the doubts. And you can shut it up."
This makes sense if you think about it.
Positive thinking raises your confidence… your faith… and your motivation…
But negative thinking discredits ALL of that in one fell swoop.
This is why it’s SO important to keep your negative thoughts in check.
How?
Here are some tips from Napoleon Hill 🙂
Recognize Negative Thoughts
The first step is awareness. Hill wrote, "You are the master of your destiny." Acknowledge negative thoughts when they arise but remember, you decide whether they get to stick around.
Replace with Positive Thoughts
Hill wrote, "Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit." When a negative thought appears, ask yourself, “But what’s the benefit?” Every bad thing has a benefit. This habit gradually shifts your mindset towards positivity.
Practice Gratitude
Hill believed gratitude was key. "The starting point of all achievement is desire," he said. Keep your desires positive by regularly counting your blessings. This practice helps in maintaining a positive outlook.
Surround Yourself with Positivity
Your environment matters… a LOT. Hill said, "Both poverty and riches are the offspring of thought." Surround yourself with positive influences – people, books, and environments that uplift and inspire you.
Believe in Yourself
Self-belief is crucial. "What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve," Hill famously said. Cultivate a strong belief in your capabilities and your path to success.
