“The problem… isn’t problems.”

Earl Nightingale, the beloved radio host and entrepreneur, loved this quote from Robert C. Worstell (and so do I!)...

"The happiest people are not the people without problems. They are the people who know how to solve their problems."

In his audio program, Secret Advantage (which you can access in the Secrets of Success digital library!), he says…

"That’s the kind of sentence that really starts me going. People who seem to spend most of their time hanging on to the short end of the stick will tell you that it’s because of their problems. Now successful people have the same identical problems. But instead of complaining about them… they solve them."

Then he gives this example…

"If you produced a product on which you could earn a $10 profit, and if you had dealers for this product in 200 cities, and if each dealer could sell 2 of these products a day, you’d come up with a million of profit… or if you produced a product in which you could earn $1 of profit, you’d have to sell 20,000 of them per week…"

How often are you able to get to the end of the day without problems? Probably pretty rarely.

That’s because, as Earl Nightingale puts it, “problems are universal and don’t pick out any one person, but distribute themselves without favor all over the world.”

In other words...

"The problem… isn’t problems."

Everyone has problems. The difference between people is how they solve (or don’t solve) their problems.

And Earl Nightingale has a really simple 6-step process for solving ANY problem. But first, here’s what NOT to do…

"Some people want to solve their problems so fast they just jump at the first thing that pops into their minds… when one thing won’t work they try another… more often than not this is the long way around."

"...think through each solution to its possible outcome before you do anything about it…

There are six steps.

  • Write your problem on paper.
  • List the obstacle standing in the way of solving it.
  • List the assets in favor of your solving the problem.
  • List as many possible solutions as you can think of.
  • Try to figure out the results of each solution.
  • Choose the solution that seems best and put it into action.

This is the scientific way to solve problems."

Don’t treat problems as a personal attack — they’re just a part of the world. Everyone has them. Your only job is to solve your own problems in a way that makes sense and helps you move forward.
