Normally when most people think of “success”...
They think about how to make more money… or get in the right rooms with the right people… or charge more for their services…
But your personality is actually your greatest asset for success.
And too few people spend time cultivating a personality that will make them happy and successful.
Napoleon Hill called this the fourth universal principle of success…
"Your personality is your greatest asset… or liability. It can open doors and build bridges. Or it can build walls between you and other people."
But exactly what traits, you might wonder, are needed to cultivate a personality that brings you happiness and success?
Here are the qualities that Napoleon Hill proposes in his program, The Science of Personal Achievement…
Positive Mental Attitude — “You can get a good idea of the important part a positive mental attitude plays in your life by considering the fact that it influences your tone of voice, the expression on your face, the posture of your body, and it modifies every word that you speak, as well as determining the nature of your emotions… it affects every thought you release, thereby extending your reach favorably or unfavorably.”
Flexibility — “Flexibility consists in the habit of adapting oneself to quickly changing circumstances without losing one’s sense of composure. A man with a flexible disposition must be something like a chameleon. That is, able to quickly change color to harmonize with the environment.”
Promptness of Decision — “When you observe people you will notice that those who dilly-dally trying to make up their minds but never seem to get around to it are never popular or successful. This is a fast-moving world of action and those who don’t move quickly and definitely only get in the way of those who know where they are going and what they are seeking.”
Smiling — “If you are not concerned about the relationship between the habit of smiling and your mental attitude, just try smiling when you’re angry and notice how quickly you will change from a negative to a positive state.”
Sense of Humor — “This well developed sense of humor aids one in becoming flexible and adjustable to the varying circumstances of life. It also enables him to relax and become human instead of remaining cool and distant, a trait which doesn’t attract friends.”
Humility of Heart — “The man who is on good terms with his own conscience and in harmony with his creator is humble at heart no matter how much of the material riches of life he may have accumulated or what may be his personal achievements.”
