Earl Nightingale prepared a 30-day challenge that can propel you forward in any endeavor you dream of conquering. If you’ve never heard of this self-development master, you may wonder who he is and why you should listen to him. To summarize his remarkable life:
Earl Nightingale (March 12, 1921–March 25, 1989) was born in Los Angeles, CA. After his father abandoned the family in the 1930s, he, his mother, and two siblings moved into a tent. His humble beginnings sparked his quest to find how a person with seemingly no advantages could rise above their station and positively impact the world.
At age 17, Nightingale joined the US Marines. He served as an instructor at Camp Lejune, NC, and then aboard the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor, HI, while working a side job as an announcer for a local radio station.
Out of more than 1,000 crew members, Nightingale became one of 15 Marine (and one of over 300 total) survivors aboard the USS Arizona the day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
He separated from the Marines after World War II in 1946. At 29, Nightingale read and became forever inspired by Napoleon Hill’s self-development blockbuster, “Think and Grow Rich.”
Nightingale became one of the greatest motivational radio speakers and authors of all time, recording thousands of radio programs. He was best known for teaching character development, leading a meaningful life, and developing motivation.
Earl Nightingale’s books and programs have inspired countless other motivational speakers. This 30-day challenge exercise comes from one of his most well-known books, “The Strangest Secret.”
Are you ready to dive into Earl Nightingale’s method to transform your life? Let’s get started.
Achieve more in the next 30 days than you may have in years using Nightingale’s method from “The Strangest Secret.” Complete the following one day at a time for 30 days:
You become what you think. Ideas turn into reality.
Think positively to begin changing your circumstances. Envision yourself succeeding and achieving your goals.
Speak words of encouragement and affirmation to yourself. Catch yourself in a negative thought and flip that thought to its opposite. (Ex.: Change “I’ll never get promoted” to “I’m well on my way to earning a promotion.”)
Negativity doesn’t live where gratitude does. Cultivate gratitude by writing down or meditating on what you’re thankful for daily.
Pick a goal you’d like to accomplish within the next 30 days. Setting your sights on the target is the first step to hitting it.
Make that goal a SMART one. It should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. Write this goal down and carry it with you everywhere. Be sure to look at it every day.
Come up with a plan. Stick to your plan despite all odds.
Sure, you’ll fall into old habits, experience setbacks, and even get bored on your path to greatness. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Do the next right thing despite less-than-favorable circumstances or feelings.
Remember progress over perfection. Do something that moves you closer to your goal daily—don’t wait for perfect timing, plans, opportunities, etc.
You must adopt a growth mindset. It’s the willingness to learn and accept setbacks as opportunities and learning experiences.
Consider everyone you meet as your teacher. Read growth mindset books or find a guide. Fall in love with the process of gaining knowledge, experience, and value.
You’re never done learning, growing, and getting better. These increase your possibilities for success.
Believe it to achieve it. You can rise above just about anything when you believe in yourself. Even if you couldn’t today, you might be able to tomorrow with additional knowledge or tools.
Once the first five steps are in place, it’s time to build on more success habits. Becoming successful requires you to become a well-rounded individual.
This means getting better at:
Add one habit daily. You’ll be surprised how much ground you can cover in just 30 days. And you’ll be able to enjoy the many benefits goal-achieving brings.
Here's where the 30-day success challenge gets even better. This exercise reprograms your brain to focus on success. Taking on this challenge builds your discipline, confidence, and momentum. It turns big dreams into achievable everyday steps.
