If You Want To WIN, Stop The Gossip 🤐

How often do you spend thinking about other people — gossiping about their wins or their losses?

Most people chalk it up to being a “guilty pleasure” or just something they do in their free time… but it has a real impact on how you think about yourself and the world.

Every second you spend belittling people who you perceive as above or below you… is a second you’re not focussing on your own goals, coming up with new ideas, or solving your own problems.

​Robert Collier points this out in his amazing book, The Secret of The Ages (which we’re going through in February’s book club!):

"You will never improve yourself by dwelling upon the drawbacks of your neighbors. You will never attain perfect health and strength by thinking of weakness or disease. No man ever made a perfect score by watching his rival’s target. You have got to think strength, think health, think riches."

Maybe you remember this meme that came out a few years ago…

Michael Phelps looks straight ahead, focused on nothing but his goal. Meanwhile, his opponent, Chad Le Clos, focuses on the guy who’s winning… and loses.

Eleanor Roosevelt once said: "Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people."

What are YOU focused on today?

When you’re doing something difficult — something you’ve never done before — it pays to put all of your attention and energy striving toward your goal. You don’t have time to focus on other people swimming in the same pool.

Eyes forward. 🙂

And when in doubt? Follow Benjamin Franklin’s rule: "I will speak ill of no man and speak all the good I know of everybody."
