Back in the day, Robert Collier said that the best medicine for ailments is your own belief. Here’s how he put it in The Secret of The Ages…
"Because the strongest factor in bringing about the desired effect in the beginning was your BELIEF — yours and that of your doctor. But as you kept on and on, your belief began to falter, until presently it died away altogether. You may have hoped, but the active belief suggestions to your subconscious mind had stopped carrying conviction."
Now OBVIOUSLY, medicine is important and we all should be super grateful for the treatments we have available today.
But we shouldn’t discount the power of our own mind — especially when it comes to psychological ailments such as fear or anxiousness.
In fact, science has found the mind to be extremely powerful. In one study, Dr. Ted J. Kaptchuk looked at people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). He gave half of the volunteers sugar pills and told them it was just sugar pills. And the others got nothing at all.
There was a dramatic improvement in the placebo group’s IBS symptoms… even though they were explicitly told they were getting a placebo!
We often think of them as separate, but the mind and body are connected.
How we think impacts how we feel. How we feel impacts how we act. How we act impacts the results we get. So on and so forth.
i.e. your subconscious thoughts REALLY MATTER!
"Real, lasting health was never found in pill boxes or medicine bottles. There is one method—and only one—by which it can be gained and kept. That method is by using the power of the Subconscious Mind."
