Reader Reviews

This book has its highs and lows, but overall, the highs wipe out the lows. As I read in the end, this book is due for high praise for its honesty and direct advice.

I have tried to read every chapter twice, but I only read the chapters I glanced through twice; I made sure, however, that every chapter, even the small ones, sank in.

I loved all the tips in the book, including the prayer tips. I thank Carnegie for sharing his genius with me.

I used to spend sleepless nights worrying about the future. I wanted to know the future so I could worry over it. Yes, a classic worrywart. I am glad I stopped before I looked twice my age.

I am particularly drawn to the parsimonious examples at the back - those were necessary in my opinion - they did deviate from the text a bit, but they very aptly showed the practical application of banishing worry, from the common man's POV.

I also got a glimpse into the lives of those in power, and their effective stratagems for banishing their night hooties. Surely someone with a lot of responsibility worries hella loads!

So, what surprised me in a magical way is that worry is so universal, and from there, so are the remedies. I would consider this book one of a brainchild's, and if anyone happens to come across it, and is not put off by the title (yes, knowledge repels snobs), they would have uncovered an extremely shiny gem that will stay with them, sparkling their soul and paving their lighted path for life.

One of my favorites. It is a remedy to me, and I keep this book always with me. It also teaches you how to live a better life. I usually write the date of purchase and the shop name on the first page of every book. The date of purchase of this book reminds me of one of the toughest times of my life.

On 15th August 2001, I had a reaction to a medicine that contracted my blood vessels. This resulted in fluctuating BP, palpitation, and many other troubles. It lasted for four years. It was a near-death experience. I purchased this book on October 14, 2001, when my younger sister and mom accompanied me to a small restaurant to have some juice. This restaurant is located near the book shop from where I purchased this book.

Since that time, this book has remained my Bible for life. I always keep this book with me and completed my third reading sometime in 2009. Still, I flip a few pages and read some of the lines I underlined before.

I purchased this book right before going through the hardest month in my life. I felt like this book was brought to me in preparation for what was about to happen. Let me tell you that if you are going through hard times and you need help prioritizing what's important and what's not in your life, then this book will open your eyes and make you laugh at some of the things you've been so worried about. The number of examples mentioned by the author really reinforces the message and is a great way to see how people found ways out.

This book is life-changing. It is not the kind of book you read and suddenly you are happy (because I don't think that really exists out in the world). This is the kind of book you read and use as a guide. You have to deliberately practice what Carnegie writes in order to truly feel better and "start living". Although it was written in the 1940s, the book speaks timeless wisdom that can be applied anywhere today. I read this as a young male who loves the speed of technology, and even though I cannot put my attention into books often, this particular read grasped me, slowed me down, and brought me in. I encourage it to anyone who wants to change their life for the better.

I bought this book and then immediately worried that it wouldn't help me - see what I did there! It was written so long ago that I couldn't see how the information could still be relevant - but it is! This is a GREAT book; an easy read that will help you put things into perspective and get off the "worrycoaster." I loved this book so much that I bought it for one of my health coaching clients. If you are a worrier, or know someone who is, please buy this book. It's super helpful and a very easy read.

It is amazing to find out that some of the things you thought were just common sense to not do, you still do, even though mentally you know you shouldn't. This book opens your mind, at least it did for me, onto how to deal with those decisions you find hard to make, even though you want to make them. It gives you a new prescribe on how to go about handling your problems being on your mind constantly. Gives you a guide on how to resolve the mighty effects of worry on your daily life.

I just can't imagine how someone could not enjoy this book. A very light and fun read, but also a great introduction to more advanced personal (spiritual or professional, for example) growth books. It's much more than just what the title says. It's about changing the perspective from which you view yourself, your life, and others, gaining control of your emotions instead of being enslaved by them, and empowering yourself to actually choose to enjoy life. Full of quotes and personal stories that describe how you can choose to change your attitude towards reality in every situation.

This is such a unique book in several ways. First Dale Carnegie presents stories; second, he gives facts and statistics to prove his points, and third, he gives us practical action steps to implement. I was going to give this book away to a friend, but ended up ordering another one because I wanted to keep it so I could reference all the practical steps.
