Thought Vibration: The Law of Attraction in the Thought World

William Walker Atkinson

About the Author

William Walker Atkinson (1862–1932) was a pioneer in the New Thought movement and a prolific author of books on self-development, metaphysics, and mental science. With a deep interest in the mind's influence over life circumstances, Atkinson often wrote under pseudonyms, leaving behind a legacy of accessible and empowering teachings. His work laid the groundwork for modern thought on manifestation and the law of attraction.

About the Book

"Thought Vibration: The Law of Attraction in the Thought World" explores the powerful premise that your thoughts are not passive but vibrational forces that shape your reality. With a blend of metaphysical insight and practical psychology, Atkinson gives readers the mental tools to reshape their lives through deliberate thinking.

Summary

This concise book explains how thoughts operate like magnets, attracting circumstances that match their frequency. Atkinson teaches that maintaining purposeful thought can help you attract success. Core insights include:

  • Thoughts Are Vibrations That Attract Like Energy: Every thought you hold carries a vibrational frequency. Consistent thought patterns magnetize matching conditions and experiences into your life.
  • You Can Train Your Mind Like a Muscle: Atkinson describes disciplining the mind through repeated effort. By carefully choosing your thoughts and maintaining mental focus, you begin to shape your outer world in alignment with your inner intent.
  • Fear and Worry Repel Success: Negative emotions, such as fear and doubt, carry disruptive vibrations. Releasing them and replacing them with confident, clear thoughts can attract the results you want.
  • The Will Is the Master Force: The will is the central power behind thought. While your thoughts create vibrations, it's your will that directs and sustains them. Strengthening your will allows you to choose the thoughts you hold and resist being swayed by external influences or emotional turbulence. Mastery of the will is the foundation of personal power.
  • The Law of Mental Control: People are often ruled by their thoughts, rather than the other way around. Through deliberate mental control, you can choose which ideas to entertain and which to reject, thereby shaping your character and destiny. The key to success is learning to think about what you want, regardless of moods or circumstances.
  • Mental Atmosphere and Influence: Every individual radiates a "mental atmosphere" that subtly affects others. Positive, confident individuals project uplifting vibrations that attract cooperation and respect. Negative thinkers repel opportunities. By refining your mental state, you not only change your own life but also influence those around you.
  • The Role of Faith and Expectancy: Faith is portrayed not as unquestioning belief but as a confident expectation that desired outcomes will unfold. Expectancy sets the vibrational tone for manifestation; doubt interrupts it. Atkinson repeatedly emphasizes that belief and mental poise are practical forces, not mere emotions.
  • The Power of Concentration: Concentration is one of the highest forms of thought mastery. When you give something your undivided attention, your mental energy becomes more concentrated and potent. Scattered thoughts, by contrast, weaken results and produce inconsistency in life outcomes.
  • Thought and Health: Atkinson touches on the mind–body connection. Harmonious thinking promotes vitality, while fear, anger, and worry disturb the physical system. Maintaining calm, optimistic thoughts not only attracts success but also preserves health and longevity.
  • Harmony with Universal Law: The universe operates according to immutable mental and spiritual laws. Aligning your thoughts with these universal principles brings peace and prosperity. Resistance leads to struggle and discord. The Law of Attraction, in this sense, reflects the harmony between your mind and the greater cosmic order.
  • Persistence and Practice: Transformation does not happen overnight. Just as physical habits take time to form, your mental habits require constant practice and persistence. Treat mental training as a lifelong discipline—a steady refinement of vibration and will.

An incredibly well-written brain training book that helped me confirm the answers to how to cultivate the brain cells that give the controller the ability to combat destructive behavior and bad habits in place of good habits, thoughts, and actions. A well-needed book for myself and those of us who plan on improving the way we think, act, and live our daily lives, regardless of the chaos that surrounds us. I'm going to read it again!

Short, incredibly well written, and most probably served as an inspiration for the entire New Age movement throughout the 20th century (either this one or any of W.W.Atkinson's writings from the end of the 19th and the very beginning of the 20th century). His style is easy to read, his attitudes are humanist, gentle, and benevolent, he equally respects men and women of all races and cultures, and says the day will soon come when humanity will finally go beyond its primitivism, segregations, fears, misjudgments, prejudices, etc. Well, 100 years later, it's still almost the same, but so are the universal laws and principles Atkinson explains so clearly.

I was attracted to this read because I was ready. I got tired of the tail wagging this dog. It was time for me to take control of my every thought. Not just control but responsibility too. I have come to realize that I've been generating my everyday reality by how I have been thinking(mostly negative and defeating).

This is one of the original books on the Law of Attraction. This is really nothing new, but it's reassuring that this truth/law lives on. Be amazed as I was!

I enjoyed the emphasis this book places on our mental outlook and how our thoughts predict circumstances in our lives. We are more in charge of outcomes than we realize. Stay positive and refuse to accept anything less than the best that we all deserve!

It's a masterpiece written by Atkinson. It's impossible to put it down once you start reading the first page. Since I take my time reading this type of literature, it took me months to complete and putting its tools into practice.
