About the Author

Renowned self-help author Napoleon Hill (1883–1970) is best remembered for his work on personal development and success psychology. His research formed the foundation for his comprehensive guide to achieving success in any area of life.

About the Book

"The Law of Success" was originally published as a multi-volume course before being compiled into a single book. This extensive work is considered one of the most in-depth studies on success ever written. Hill outlines 16 essential lessons that serve as a blueprint for personal and financial achievement. The book covers everything from goal setting and confidence to leadership and failure, offering readers a systematic approach to mastering success.

Summary

"The Law of Success" is structured around 16 key principles, each designed to help individuals develop the mindset and habits necessary for success. These principles include:

  • Definiteness of Purpose: A clear, specific goal is the foundation of success. Without a definite aim, you’re more likely to drift directionless through life.
  • Self-Confidence: Success requires belief in yourself. Hill emphasizes the power of autosuggestion and affirmations to build unwavering confidence.
  • Initiative and Leadership: Successful people take action without waiting for others to push them. Leadership requires decisiveness, courage, and a willingness to take responsibility.
  • Imagination: Creativity fuels success, helping you develop innovative solutions and seize opportunities.
  • Action and Doing More Than Paid For: Attract greater opportunities and rewards by going the extra mile and providing more value than expected.
  • Pleasing Personality: Developing charisma, likability, and strong communication skills increases influence and helps in personal and business relationships.
  • Personal Initiative: Success comes from proactively seeking solutions and opportunities rather than waiting for them.
  • Enthusiasm: Genuine passion and excitement fuel motivation and inspire others. Your zest for life creates a magnetic energy that attracts success.
  • Self-Discipline: Self-control and persistence are key to overcoming distractions and staying committed to goals.
  • Accurate Thinking: Avoiding assumptions and basing decisions on facts is critical for long-term success. Clear, logical thinking prevents errors and misjudgments.
  • Concentration: Accelerate your progress and prevent wasted effort by focusing your energy on a single goal or purpose.
  • Tolerance: Being open-minded and respectful of different perspectives helps build strong relationships and reduces conflicts.
  • Failure as a Stepping Stone: Failure is a necessary part of success. Learn from mistakes and setbacks to strengthen resilience and sharpen decision-making skills.
  • Golden Rule Applied: Create goodwill and attract positive outcomes by treating others with fairness and respect.
  • Mastermind Group: Surround yourself with a network of successful, like-minded individuals. They’ll provide motivation, knowledge, and support.
  • Faith and a Positive Mental Attitude: Success is determined mainly by mindset. A positive mental attitude plus an unwavering faith in your ability to succeed is a powerful formula for achievement.

By applying these 16 principles, you can cultivate habits, beliefs, and actions that lead to personal and professional success.

Reader Reviews
"When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." This book is written only for those who are truly ready to open their mind and make a commitment towards their success. Very well written and well thought out, this book gives a master class on the disciplines necessary to shape your own mind for success. I'm a living testimony that when my mind became ready to receive this course, my entire universe changed and shifted towards the attainment of my "definite aim" in life. I cannot fully express the number of opportunities and doors that seemed to open when I began to apply these principles with a positive mindset and a spirit of enthusiasm. I learned the value of persistent effort, the value of understanding what Napoleon Hill refers to as "cosmic habit force". That concept is we are what we repeatedly do and think. Excellence is not an act; it's an attitude and a mindset. Big successes are comprised of a series of small successes. I can go on and on about this book, but I encourage anyone who desires to cultivate their greatness that they already possess to read this book.

I gave this book 5 stars because it covers, explains, and implements universal truths on how to focus your attention and intentions to achieve whatever you wish to achieve. These lessons and courses of study should be taught in every elementary school and repeated at the college level. So many people wander through life with no clear direction and allow life to happen to them instead of directing their life and making it happen FOR them. I am in this group, and as a child (and into adulthood), I never had any idea of what I wanted or intended to become. While this book uses references for the time it was written, the lessons are timeless and relevant to the complex world of today.

This book has truly helped me establish better habits that align with my vision of success. I recommend The Law of Success: In Sixteen Lessons to anybody who understands or is willing to learn how one's mind and thoughts truly shape your future, for better or worse.

The book is divided into 16 lessons. Each lesson is dedicated to one aspect of your personality, including self-confidence, imagination. As the book's name suggests, following the principles of this book should ensure your success by developing a pleasing personality. It will help you create a positive impression on others and, in turn, draw more successful people towards you.

I absolutely loved this book! This is what I call a “game changer” book. I originally started reading this book in hopes of understanding a little more about how to build a business and get monetary gain. I slowly started to realize that people define success by what they think makes them happy, and most of the time, the things that make us happy go beyond what money can offer. Once we change our mindset and train our thoughts on acquiring the things we desire, success is inevitable. When we acquire the things we desire, we realize that the real success comes from helping others toward achieving their desires because we can’t do it alone, and the world's most successful people are a testament to that!

100% Recommend this book to all who are looking to improve their life, and most of all, happiness. Although all of the laws in this and the second volume can be used for financial and business success, these laws go further than that.

This is a classic, meaning you will get more out of it each time you read it. The lessons that were my favorite on this read will likely not be my favorites on the next read as I practice and evolve. My favorite type of book.

Napoleon has a way of making abstract things make sense and putting them into practical thought.

Really awesome book full of timeless advice for success and happiness in life. It's amazing how much of this is still relevant. There were a few ideas like balding is definitely due to wearing hats that are too tight, which made me chuckle, but overall, I found myself thinking, Wow, we are dealing with the same problems and attitudes that keep us from achieving now that people were facing during Hill's time. A must-read for any self-help enthusiast.

Great fundamental principles that you can apply throughout the ages. You will need time to digest the 16 lessons in this book. I will have to re-read it again as I go through each principle. After I read this book, I realized that a lot of the motivational speakers and coaches I had been listening to throughout these years used these principles in their teaching. So this book is the one that started it all.
